Subtle Yoga – Body Sensing, Breathing & Yoga Nidra

Subtle Yoga – Body Sensing, Breathing & Yoga Nidra

Mondays 11am – 12.30 @ The River Room

Please join me for a new Subtle Yoga class on Monday mornings in the River Room.

Together we will begin our week with the soothing, grounding practices of Body Sensing, Pranayama (breathing) and Meditation (Yoga Nidra). Combined, these practices will help us move away from the over-activity of our minds towards calming our Central Nervous System for deep physical and mental relaxation and well being. In Body Sensing we learn to listen to our bodies in gentle movement and in stillness. In Pranayama practice we really come to know our breath as integral to the experience of our bodies. Every class will include a full practice of Yoga Nidra (Yogic Sleep) to leave us fully refreshed and rejuvenated.

NB – No prior yoga experience or physical fitness is necessary for this class. The practices will particularly benefit those of us experiencing stress, anxiety and insomnia but are also ideal for anyone interested in cultivating a sense of wholeness and wellbeing and maybe wanting to complement a stronger physical asana-based practice in other Yoga classes.

My teaching is now very much informed by recently training in iRest Yoga Nidra and I am delighted to be able to complement my Gentle Yoga class on Friday mornings with this Monday morning class. What a perfect way to end and begin the week! I hope you’ll join me and maybe bring a friend.

Please email me or call if you’d like any more information or to chat further.

Hatha Flow (with Runners & Cyclists in mind)
Jan 20 @ 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm

I have been running a regular class for cyclists, focussing particularly on steadying and expanding the breath, opening the hips, hamstrings and shoulders and strengthening the core and inner thighs. As a whole range of people have been coming to this class, most often seeking stretching, strengthening and release in relation to some kind of sporting activity, I thought I’d expand the class to include runners, climbers, canoeists, walkers etc. This class is suitable for beginners or for those of you with more experience as you will be invited to engage with the sequences according to your own ability and energy on the day. My aim is for you to feel fully open and relaxed by the end of the class.

Hatha Flow Class
Jan 21 @ 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm

This Hatha & Vinyasa Yoga class combines creative flow with a focus on specific postures and parts of the body. We synchronise breath with movement, build up strength, flexibility and finely tune our external and internal alignment. The class is for mixed ability but a certain level of physical fitness is advisable. It is a class in which you can choose to take it relatively easy or work up to stronger challenges, depending on how you feel on the day.

Soothing Yoga: Feel, Flow & Breathe
Jan 23 @ 6:00 pm – 7:15 pm

Please join me for a new class on Thursday evenings 6-7.15pm – Soothing Yoga: Feel, Flow & Breathe

While I am very sad that Sandra Tallon – who has been teaching a beautiful class on Thursday evenings ever since the River Room opened – has decided to move on, I am honoured that she has asked me to teach this class and am really looking forward to beginning in January.

The class will combine gentle flow, stillness in poses and breath work – it will be more active than my Subtle Yoga on Monday mornings and a little more strenuous than my Gentle Yoga on Friday mornings but less strenuous than my Hatha Flow classes on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It will be lovely I think if you are looking for an evening class that will centre you, stretch and strengthen you without the effort of so many physically-focussed classes out there these days.

I hope you’ll join me!

Fri
Gentle Yoga
Jan 24 @ 10:00 am – 11:30 am

In this Gentle class, we combine slow flow with specific posture work. The class proceeds at a slower pace than the Hatha/Vinyasa class, taking longer over poses and transitions between them. This class is perfect for beginners or if you just feel you want a more gentle experience on the mat. In many ways, a gentler class can be more advanced in that we spend more time really enquiring into the poses, breath and movement.
